Dr. Shyam Sunder initiated his medical career with an MBBS from Kurnool Medical College in 1991. Upon graduation, he obtained an MD in Pediatrics from the same college and DM in Cardiology from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology, Trivandrum in 1995.

He has practiced Cardiology at several eminent hospitals including, Wockhardt / Fortis Hospital, Mallya Hospital and Agadi Hospital and has also worked as a Assistant Professor for Cardiology in Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology Trivandrum from 1995 to 1998.
